Stanhope Primary

History

The National curriculum for History requires children to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. At Stanhope we aim to inspire pupils’ curiosity in History and to equip them to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. Through the topics of our whole school creative curriculum, children learn to carry out historical enquiries, make historical interpretations and develop their chronological understanding of the past.

Through topics the children learn about the history of their local area as well as Britain and the wider world.  We believe in a very interactive approach to History and drama and role-play, play an essential role in this.

As the children go through the school they learn to question historical sources and their reliability and carry out their own enquires based on the study of various original and interpretive sources.  They extended and deepen their chronological secure knowledge understanding of British, local and world history, so that it provides a well-informed context for wider learning.
